Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

This was painted in England shortly after I’d returned from a sojourn in Italy, so there’s a bit of the Italian Renaissance lady about her, combined with the wilds of old English woods. She’s another creature of transformation: human, but shedding feathers, with one eye turned to the Wilderness World.

The quote stitched onto the collage comes from Rilke, discussing the importance of patience and time when living the artist’s life.

Oil paints on canvas paper, with lace, leaves, wood, feathers and hand-stitching; 30 x 40.
